Cladding can improve the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of metal parts. The traditional electric arc welding and thermal spraying method is feasible in economy and technology, can bring a good performance, but in the process of laser cladding is still possible to form carbide grains, which will affect the mechanical strength and durability of cladding layer.
Simply, the cladding material in powder or filamentous form was introduced into parts of the surface, then the laser is used to selectively dissolve the material and the substrate to very small depth, with the fusion of the two kinds of materials.
Compared to arc welding and thermal spraying, laser cladding has several advantages. Specifically, the precise and limited application of heat can control the thermal deformation of the parts in the minimum proportion, even without thermal deformation, thus eliminating the need for reprocessing in subsequent processing. At the same time, laser cladding also produces very little mixing (dilution) between the deposited material and the base material, producing a truly solid metallurgical bond between the cladding and the substrate.
